Zone-by-Zone Median Distances in CQ WW CW, 2005 to 2025.

This post is to augment the earlier zone-by-zone analyses of the CQ WW CW contest.

Each zone-and-year cell in the tables below encodes information thusly:

Note: If the country contains more than one zone, then the zone of the median QSO is indicated along with the country. Note also that, as before, distances are measured using the position of the relevant country as given by the pertinent cty.dat file. In a few cases, there are cells in which the only QSOs are those within the same country, in which case the distance is recorded as zero.

Median Distances in ARRL DX SSB, 2018 -- 2026

Using the public logs from ARRL DX SSB, we can generate tables for the continental U.S. showing the median distance of QSOs in the contest. Unfortunately, only the logs beginning in 2018 have been made public by ARRL (despite their assuring me in 2018 that older logs would be made available, and the CQ WW contest committee's laudable release of CQ WW logs back to 2005).

Each state-and-year cell in the tables below encodes information thusly:

The distances are calculated using the geographical centre of each state and the latitude and longitude of countries provided by cty.dat files downloaded from here.

Using the public logs from ARRL DX CW, we can generate tables for the continental U.S. showing the median distance of QSOs in the contest.
